(The usual disclosure: As you know, we are a site devoted to opinion, inspiration, civility, and tolerance. So, why this weekly ritual with AGT? Well, first, it’s our guilty pleasure [life can’t always be so serious], and second, it fits right into one of our pillars: inspiration. America’s Got Talent features folks who are going for it in a very real sense. They are living their dream, come what may [the big red “X”?]. Doesn’t matter who you are, what you look like, or where you come from. On stage, you’re all equal under the lights. That’s pretty great to me.)
Let’s find out who’s moving on!
In the green room, everyone had to pretend to be not nervous.
Then we got to meet Piers, Sharon and Howie again. Ah, the joy of routine. We come to expect a certain progression of a show, and we get it. I liked Piers’ comments at the start of tonight’s show. He said it was a good show last night, but was honest in saying that it wasn’t all perfect. You have to admit that he’s honest…and maybe that’s okay.
Frank Miles, Avery and the Calico Hearts, Taylor Davis, Fatally Unique
Sharon looked at the stage and said that she couldn’t understand why three of the acts were standing there. She was very complimentary to them all. What did you think of all these acts?
In the end, Fatally Unique was moving on. I loved them. They were really sharp last night. As for Avery and the Calico Hearts? Well, I guarantee you will see them on TV soon. The other two acts have good talent, and maybe time will take them to their dreams.
Piers called Fatally Unique the “most deserved” to move on at this stage and he’s correct — they have really improved. They really are entertaining.
We’re back. After the break, it was Howie with a bullhorn, walking around the lot showing us how everything works. Inevitably, he pulled some pranks on Piers. To Piers’ credit he can run quite fast in dress shoes.
On stage next, pop star Jason Derulo.
I’m going for another cherry square. See you after the next break!
Maybe I’ll get a bullhorn like Howie and walk around the neighborhood.
After commercial, the host of Love in the Wild. Adventure dating? I think just getting into a coffeehouse on a Saturday night with a date is an adventure in itself.
Now, let’s get to:
Zuma Zuma, Yellow Designs Stunt Team
I like both of these acts. Piers and the judges liked both of the acts. They’re good acts! I’d be happy if both went through.
In the end? Zuma Zuma. Hard to argue this one. I don’t think the world has heard the last of Yellow Designs Stunt Team. I can think of a ton of venues where they could make a splash. As for Zuma Zuma? On to the semis with their high energy dance.
Scott Alexander, Team iLuminate, Sam B
Nobody wanted to be up against Team iLuminate on stage. I don’t think there’s much I can write here.
It had to be.
How could it not?
This act is ripe and ready right now. I cannot wait to see them in the next round. I can’t wait to see them at my local arena.
Now, it’s time for Maroon 5 with “Moves Like Jagger.”
Remember Maroon 5? They have a nice sound. As you know if you’re a regular here, I’m no Sharon Osbourne, but I know what I like (note: especially the 80s). Maroon 5’s pretty decent. Even my viewing party likes the sound and they’re a wee bit older than I!
In the green room, we found Mr. Nick Cannon standing with Charles Peachock, The Kinetic King, and Melissa Villasenor.
All the acts went to the stage, and as they did, I found myself thinking, America realized how hard it is to drop tennis balls on a keyboard in tune and in time to music. I was also heartened to see that The Kinetic King got some sympathy votes.
The act leaving right now? The Kinetic King. I would have liked to have seen what else he could do. Guess I’ll have to wait for him to show up on the Discovery Channel.
Charles Peachock and Melissa Villasenor both had a chance to make their appeal to the judges.
Did they win your heart?
Sharon was complimentary to both acts, but she went with Melissa. Piers was also complimentary, but he said the best chance of winning was Charles. Howie picked Melissa, sending an unbelievable juggler home.
Charles, I want to say this: I saw you last night. I saw what you did with that piano. I believe that took you eight years. I hope I haven’t seen the last of you.
