The 7/27/11 America’s Got Talent reveal show will tell us the next four acts moving on to the semifinals.
Welcome to the LIVE AGT blog, here at Nobody’s View! I’m not blogging from the West tonight, so some of you might be getting this a bit early. If you don’t want to know the SPOILERS then don’t read on until after the show. Of course, no matter when you read, I welcome your comments (and your subscriptions!). Thank you all for your continuing support.
Sharon Osbourne, Piers Morgan, Howie Mandel, and Nick Cannon will be there with the contestants every step of the way as they find out who America has chosen. Here is your list from last night (in case you forgot):
Summerwind Skippers, SH’Boss Boys, Mauricio Herrera, Seth Grabel, Poplyfe, Ian Johnson, Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., Purrfect Angelz, Monet, Captain & Maybelle, Lys Agnes, and Professor Splash. Is your season favorite in this group?
Ah, the tension.

(The usual disclosure: As you know, we are a site devoted to opinion, inspiration, civility, and tolerance. So, why this weekly ritual with AGT? Well, first, it’s our guilty pleasure [life can’t always be so serious], and second, it fits right into one of our pillars: inspiration. America’s Got Talent features folks who are going for it in a very real sense. They are living their dream, come what may [the big red “X”?]. Doesn’t matter who you are, what you look like, or where you come from. On stage, you’re all equal under the lights. That’s pretty great to me.)
Alright, folks. Let’s get started.
Can you feel the excitement? Really…deep down in your gut, can you feel the tension? Maybe that’s just gas.
Whatever it is, we’re on to the 7/27/11 America’s Got Talent quarterfinal reveal. Who did America choose? Will they go with the people who hang kitchen appliances from their face? Will it be the belly flop king? Who knows? We will, very soon.
Just a note — one of my viewing partners cringed during the montage when they showed the Captain & Maybelle. Just wanted to let you know a little about my viewing situation here.
At the start, Nick threw it to the green room. The acts looked pretty happy. All 12. Soon, only 4 will be smiling.
Oh, and tonight we get Stevie Nicks and Fighting Gravity (yes!). You guys in Vegas yet? Huh? Huh?
Oh, hang on. The Smurfs just showed up. I’m not sure how to react to this. I know they’re plugging their new movie, but…well…no more to say on that for now.
Ian Johnson, Summerwind Skippers, Purrfect Angelz
Wow. NONE of these acts are going through. Now, my viewing group supports that choice (but that doesn’t mean they thought all of them were poor! One member of the group thinks Ian Johnson is “adorable” and another really liked the Summerwind Skippers). This is going to be an interesting evening folks! Hang on to your hats!
We’re back. And so are the Smurfs.
Aaaaaand, on to the Orville Redenbacher lounge. Oh, and in case you were wondering, Professor Splash has mad bruising on his legs.
Next up? The great Stevie Nicks with her new single, “For What It’s Worth.” I’ll tell ya Stevie, for what it’s worth, you are awesome. Thank you for your awesomeness. Isn’t she great to listen to? I mean, I’m no music connoisseur, but there are certain acts — Sting, Stevie Nicks, Paul Simon — you can never ever ever go wrong. Listen to that great guitar in the background. Can you imagine playing guitar for Stevie Nicks? Apparently she has Michael Grimm touring with her. Good lord. Does it get any better than that?
I may have to look into that concert!
Of course, I have to come up with the dough. Maybe I’ll just hope one of their performances comes to cable.
Poplyfe, Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr.
Please…please…please…be both. To the gods of AGT, hear this prayer! (Was that dramatic or what?) Young music phenoms. An incredible Sinatra-eque performer. Fantastic. And the act going on? BOTH! Nice. That caused some smiles to break out in the room here. Needless to say both Poplyfe and Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. were also happy. Ecstatic…elated…to say the least. I want big things for both these acts because I love their stories. To be great and recognized as great? Well, that’s just great.
Mauricio Herrera, Captain & Maybelle, Lys Agnes, Monet
This is an interesting group. Would you go to see Mauricio in Vegas with a drink in hand? I might. What if he shared the stage with Captain & Maybelle? (You don’t have to answer that!) Monet will grow into her voice and will be sensational. As for Lys? Well, she certainly has an amazing voice. And probably a huge future with her passion. So, who was America’s choice? Lys Agnes. What can we say? It’s a banner night for singers. A banner night for banner singers. And what would a banner night be without Howie making a Smurf poop joke? Luckily, he made one…so we’re good.
Need any introduction? I didn’t think so.
These guys are, in a word, sensational. They were on stage tonight and were, in a word, awesome. Love Fighting Gravity. Love them! Truly a Vegas show. Will they be on Broadway or in Vegas? Either way, I’d see them. And I’m going to go out on a limb and say a lot of you would, too.
Here’s to your future, Fighting Gravity. Life your dream to the fullest.
Stevie Nicks took the stage again with “Edge of Seventeen.” Oh, man. What can I say? Brilliant. If you haven’t seen this song’s treatment in “School of Rock,” do so. It’s really funny, in my humble opinion. Anyway, I think we need more “performers” today. Like Nicks. She commands the stage. She owns it.
After Stevie, it was back to the stage for…
SH’Boss Boys, Professor Splash, and Seth Grabel
First things first — the act leaving the competition? SH’Boss Boys. Nick consoled them with news of their bright future. I have to agree. These kids have a passion at a young age and they have a positive message. That’s a recipe for success.
That leaves Professor Splash and Seth Grabel. Who is your choice? Do you want to see more diving or more illusions? Both acts told the judges they have more in their respective bag of tricks. Which bag’d be better in Vegas?
We’re back. It’s down to Professor Splash and Seth Grabel — fourth and fifth in the voting. What will the judges do? Sharon Osbourne tipped her cap to Splash’s danger and Grabel’s showmanship. In the end, she went with Grabel. Howie? He admitted it was tough, in that both could fit in Vegas. He went with Professor Splash. That left Piers Morgan. We know he loves the Professor. He keeps telling us it’s the most amazing thing he’s seen. He has a fondness for the magician though. His choice? Professor Splash.
I have a feeling we haven’t seen the end of Seth Grabel. What do you think?
So, there you have it. Professor Splash, Poplyfe, Eugene Landau Murphy, Jr., and Lys Agnes.
