7/20/11 America’s Got Talent Season 6 Episode 16 is the Second Quarterfinals Reveal — Who Will Go to the AGT Semis?

There were some great acts in the season 6 America’s Got Talent second quarterfinals, including the Smage Brothers, Daniel Joseph Baker, Silhouettes, and Steven Retchless.  Will these folks be moving on to the semis?

Well, we’ll see tonight.  Welcome to Nobody’s View!  The place on the Internet for the rest of us.  You don’t have to be famous to be here and you don’t have to be a “somebody.”  All you have to be is a person with an opinion.  Hey, that’s why we love AGT, right?  Regular folks reaching for the stars.  Let’s see who it is tonight, on America’s Got Talent.

(The usual disclosure: As you know, we are a site devoted to opinion, inspiration, civility, and tolerance.  So, why this weekly ritual with AGT?  Well, first, it’s our guilty pleasure [life can’t always be so serious], and second, it fits right into one of our pillars: inspiration.  America’s Got Talent features folks who are going for it in a very real sense.  They are living their dream, come what may [the big red “X”?].  Doesn’t matter who you are, what you look like, or where you come from.  On stage, you’re all equal under the lights.  That’s pretty great to me.)

—————————–

Welcome.  Did you enjoy the repeat of “It’s Worth What?”  I only saw the last five minutes (the same last five minutes I saw last night), and I’m still blown away that a stuffed horse and dog are worth $300,000.  Goodness.

Anyway, the reason we’re here tonight is to see which acts America believes are worth $1,000,000.  Who is your choice so far?

In the opening intro, we were privy to the Piers Morgan critical review.  Oy.  But never fear…the red, white, and blue montage took us back to reality and the part of show we were truly waiting for (although, I have to admit, the Piers rants are probably one of the more entertaining parts of the show!  His trademark smirk is also a bonus).

Anyhoo, the acts came alive in the green room when the camera turned on them. I’ll bet they’re probably unbelievably nervous.  But they cover well!  They sure looked happy.

Nick started by calling Piers out on the Xs.  Piers admitted that many of the acts probably succumbed to the pressure.  Hmmm…

Elimination 1

The Rhinestone Ropers, Thomas John, Silhouettes.

Uh oh.  I’m not sure I’d want to be up against the Silhouettes.  Now, The Rhinestone Ropers were great in their first audition and I loved Thomas John when he was fresh to the show.  But the Silhouettes?  Well, I’m hard pressed to find another act last night that so blew me away.  I had flashbacks to the great Fighting Gravity.  When Sharon saw the groups on stage, she was “brutally honest” and said that the choice was “obvious” to her.  Howie agreed.  But whom did America choose?  Silhouettes.  It had to be.  There’s not much more to say, right?  I hope those little kids like hot weather, because their families are going to have to move to Las Vegas to accommodate Silhouettes’ forthcoming show.  See you in the semis Silhouettes.

The obligatorily staged trip to the Orville Redenbacher lounge showed Nick joking around with the acts.  Some of them probably weren’t really in the mood for popcorn.  But alas…contract obligations.

Then, it was time for Hot Chelle Rae with their hit (I’m taking AGT’s word for it, because I’ve never heard it) “Tonight Tonight.”  I’m going for one of those coconut patties I told you about last night.

Back in a sec…

—————————–

Okay, we’re back.  Actually, that Hot Chelle Rae group wasn’t bad.  Came outta nowhere for a million song downloads?  You go, guys.  Oh, and I love when the lead singer said they’re loving every minute of it.  Yes.  What’s the use of success if you don’t enjoy it?

Anyway, back to the eliminations.

Elimination 2

Steven Retchless, Attack Dance Crew, Geechy Guy

Dontcha just love AGT?  What an interesting trio on stage.  Three unique acts, each with their own style and strengths.  Retchless was bleeding last night, Attack Dance was sweating, and Geechy Guy was…Geechy-ing.  I echo Howie’s sentiment on the idea that it’s hard to tell which of these groups will move ahead.  Is America ready for Steven Retchless?  Did Attack Dance Crew measure up to past dancing talent?  Who was America’s choice?  In the end, it was Steven Retchless. In the end, America was supportive of the Retchless artistry.  But, as Howie said, America’s Got Talent is a popularity contest — is male pole dancing going to strike a good note with voters?

No rest for the weary blogger, as we are on to…

Elimination 3

Daniel Joseph Baker, Dani Shay, Dylan Andre

I love Dani Shay.  She’s great.  And, I like her song choices.  Dylan Andre?  Maybe in a future show.  I love his story and his mom’s inspiration.  But Daniel Joseph Baker?  Well, what can I say?  Incredible.  A star.  But my choice doesn’t matter. What matters is America’s choice.  And America went with Daniel Joseph Baker.  I know I’ll have to wait a while, but on a future Las Vegas trip, I look forward to getting tickets to his show.  I think Sharon Osbourne would join me!  (Wouldn’t that just be great?)

Sharon, if you’re out there, let me know if you’re on board for the Vegas-Daniel-Joseph-Baker show thing.  I look forward to it!

—————————–

So, on the break I discovered there’s a new Man vs. Food Nation on.  Could this night get any better?

Actually, wait…me, Sharon, and Adam Richman of Man vs. Food in Vegas together!  Now that would be a great night, right?

Back on AGT, it’s the acrobatics of Traces.  The guy in that spinning hoop was incredible.  I got dizzy just watching him.  Talk about career choices that are off limits to me.  Soon, there were poles on stage (male pole dancers, Piers!  Where was your buzzer?) and all manner of insane acrobatic things going on.  I have to say, Traces was pretty incredible.  It’s Steven Retchless meets Cirque du Soleil.

The next elimination is coming up.  Are you surprised that The Smage Brothers Riding Shows is in the same elimination with Landon Swank?

Elimination 4

Smage Brothers Riding Shows, Mona Lisa, Landon Swank

This one has me a little perplexed.  The Smage Brothers (and their insane sidekick) were great, and I think Landon Swank’s illusions are terrific.  But alas, the judges can only pick one at this point.

The act leaving AGT right off is Mona Lisa.  Maybe, like Dylan Andre, Mona Lisa will be back in a future season.

That leaves Landon Swank and the Smage Brothers.  Each got a chance to make an appeal.  Both spoke of time and dedication.  The third “wheel” of the Smage group said something pretty funny — that the motorcycles are getting so close he’s not sure he wants to move on.  Heh.  I’m surprised he’s stuck around this far! After the break, we’ll find out who is moving on to the AGT semifinals.

—————————–

After 10,343 plugs for new NBC shows we’re back to see if it will be Smage Brothers Riding Shows or Landon Swank.  The judges were on the spot to choose. Sharon had kind words for Smage Bros. and Landon.  But in the end, she went with the Smage Brothers.  Piers admitted he had a hard time choosing, but he went with Landon.  In the end, it was up to Howie.  He went with the Smage Brothers, saying it was the most exciting thing he saw yesterday.

So, there you have it.  Daniel Joseph Baker, The Samge Brothers Riding Shows, Silhouettes, and Steven Retchless.

Join us next week when we do our LIVE BLOG for the next America’s Got Talent quarterfinal round.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Nobody’s View, and your continuing vision that the rest of us can have an opinion, too!  Feel free to share yours.
