(The usual disclosure: As you know, we are a site devoted to opinion, inspiration, civility, and tolerance. So, why this weekly ritual with AGT? Well, first, it’s our guilty pleasure [life can’t always be so serious], and second, it fits right into one of our pillars: inspiration. America’s Got Talent features folks who are going for it in a very real sense. They are living their dream, come what may [the big red “X”?]. Doesn’t matter who you are, what you look like, or where you come from. On stage, you’re all equal under the lights. That’s pretty great to me.)
The AGT green room shot showed a lot of happy acts…or maybe they were just acting happy. Maybe the Orville Redenbacher was particularly tasty. I don’t know. The point is, by the end of the hour, Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne, Howie Mandel, Nick Cannon, and all of the rest of us will know.
Howie said he as “exhilarated” and “flying” after last night’s show. I can’t say the same, but I have to say there were some great acts. Anna Graceman and Snap Boogie were highlights. But one man’s opinion doesn’t matter. It’s the opinion of millions of phone and online voters that matters. Let’s see…
Fearless Flores Family, Duo Aero, and Snap Boogie were the first three called up tonight to face the judges to find out their fate. Two of these acts really impressed last night…the other? A lukewarm reception. I’m a little shocked that Fearless Flores Family and Snap Boogie are standing side-by-side in an elimination. Hmmm….
But America has spoken. And their verdict? Snap Boogie.
I think maybe, in the end, America just wasn’t ready to see young children performing such death-defying stunts, no matter how unusual and awesome they are (and you are, Flores Family). Glad to see more of Snap Boogie, though. He’s definitely going to go far, and that’s a great lesson for all of us. Take your talents as far as you can. Your big moment could be just around the corner.
We’re back, and so is AGT. Cedric the Entertainer was in the building to plug his new show and there was a cutaway to the Orville Redenbacher spot. I’m going for a drink of water….
What’s next? Avril Lavigne. I’m going for an apple….
That was a good ad break. A commercial for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. I’m definitely going to see that. Not sure when (not that you care), but….
Alright, now for more eliminations.
Squonk Opera, Sandou Trio Russian Bar, and J Chris Newberg are the next three on the stage. I have a prediction here, but I’ll keep it to myself and assume that you have the same prediction. (Although, I will say I’ll miss the “That’s Probably a Bad Idea” chorale.) What’s the verdict?
Sandou Trio Russian Bar. No surprise. I’m happy with the choice, although, I shudder to think how they’re going to top a bed of nails. Yikes. As for topping the bed of nails? In the immortal words of J Chris Newberg, “That’s probably a bad idea.”
Next up? Dezmond Meeks, Echo of Animal Gardens, and Anna Graceman. All I can say here is DANG! I didn’t want to see Dezmond Meeks and Anna Graceman in the same trio on stage if only one could stay! Sharon seems to share my feeling (although, she gets paid to have that feeling.) In the end, America chose Anna Graceman. I think she’s incredible, but I don’t want to celebrate too much at Dezmond’s expense. All I can say is that somewhere in America, Jackie Evancho is smiling.
The next performance is from Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Love it. Have you seen the movie? No? Rent it. Terence Stamp at his best…and that’s saying something! Seriously, check it out.
I don’t think the original movie has the song Macarthur Park in it, so…bonus.
Okay, no Harry Potter plug in that last break. But there was a Smurf plug. And that’s all I can say on that….
The Miami All Stars, Those Funny Little People, and The Fiddleheads are in this group. Right off the bat, I’d have to say it’s looking good for Miami All Stars. Nothing against the other two acts, but Miami All Stars was the only group in this bunch that got universal judicial acclaim. The first act voted out? Those Funny Little People. Piers Morgan celebrated. Poor taste.
So, it’s down to Miami All Stars and The Fiddleheads. Each got a chance to plead their case. Miami All Stars said they have more to give — other kinds of dance and more excitement. The Fiddleheads said they have really gone with the producers’ opinions instead of sticking to what they know how to do, and they said they want the chance to show that off. Who will it be? Find out after the break.
So it’s down to The Fiddleheads and Miami All Stars. Sharon cast her vote for Miami All Stars, as did Piers. Howie didn’t need to vote.
