Did you hear about Ted Williams?
He’s the homeless man from Columbus, Ohio who was recently discovered while panhandling. His YouTube video went crazy on the Internet and he has become an overnight sensation.
He claims two years sobriety, and has told folks that he used to be involved in radio, but that he got involved in drugs and such, which landed him, and his amazing voice, on the streets.
Now, he has a job, some fame, and a new lease on life.
When I heard this story, I couldn’t help but smile. I couldn’t help but think there are some good things in the world that find a way.
I don’t know Mr. Williams. I don’t know much about his story, his past, or his future. What is clear is that he has something now — an opportunity.
There are stories of greed and stories and hate. There are stories of yes and stories of no. There are stories we long to forget and stories we long to dismiss. But in the end, Ted Williams has provided us another kind of story — one that we need to hear.
Will success last for him? I don’t know. Will this be the greatest moment of his life? No one can tell. But you know? Even if it inspires one person, that’s enough. Even if it gives hope to someone who was about to give up on a dream, it was all worth it.
As I said, I don’t know Ted Williams at all. But I do know he’d probably agree with me.
Thanks Ted. And good luck with your 24 karat opportunity!
