CNN has reported that the Taliban has allegedly killed a 7-year-old boy for allegedly spying for the government.
If this is true, it leads us to think about the limits of opinion and tolerance. Tolerance for others does not mean that we accept everything. It does not me we condone atrocity.
Tolerance asks us to see from another point of view…to stand in another person’s shoes before making a judgment, or an argument.
However, the alleged murder of a 7-year-old forces us to confront our limits of what we will tolerate. Tolerance is not a free pass. Rather, it is an invitation to civility.
This report today suggests an area of life where there is scarce room for tolerance.
